The Coalition for Public Higher Education in Utah (CPHEU) was initiated in November of 2016 by AFT Utah, the labor union in Utah representing higher education faculty and staff. The CPHEU is comprised of AFT Utah, the Utah College Council - AFT, the David R. Kelly Chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP), and the Campaign for the Future of Higher Education (CFHE). A function of the Coalition is to inform faculty and staff in higher education institutions across Utah about legislation and policy that affects our profession. In addition, analysis of the legislation will be shared in order for you to contact your legislator in support of or opposition to proposed legislation. AFT Utah leadership are onsite at the Utah Capitol during the general and interim legislative sessions. During the 2017 Utah Legislative Session harmful legislation was effectively defeated because of the active and swift response from higher education faculty and staff who contacted legislators after they received information from the CPHEU. We plan to continue our efforts with the upcoming 2018 Legislative Session starting in January.
